Dominique Baron has passed away

Dominique Baron, possibly the best enameller the world has known, has passed away. She studied applied arts at the University of Strasbourg and continued at the National Institute of Enamellers in Morez. After getting a degree enamelling on metal she started working at Jaeger-LeCoultre, under master-enameller Miklos Merczel. After Jaeger-LeCoultre she created the in-house enamelling departments at Roger Dubuis and DeLaneau.

Then she went independent and created for brands like Patek Philippe, Cartier, Montblanc and many others. At Stern Créations in Geneva (now part of Richemont) she became director of l’Atelier, where she created her most famous creations for Van Cleef & Arpels’ Poetic Complications. This collections features models like Le Pont des Amoureux, the Romantic English Garden or the Quantième des Saisons: master watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht is responsible for the movements, and Dominique Baron created the beautiful dials in which all techniques of enamelling were used. Dominique Baron was only 45 years old.
