Gazing at the stars with Christiaan van der Klaauw

The astronomical watches made by Christiaan van der Klaauw are nothing short of breathtaking. Wearing a mechanical universe on the wrist is really something special. Dutch jewellers Van Hell Juweliers brought watches and stars together at the Bussloo observatory. When people looked up, they saw the stars; when people looked down, they saw stars in watches.

For over 35 years the volunteers of the Bussloo observatory have been sharing their passion for the stars with a large audience. Passion for the heavens is something these people have in common with Dutch watch manufacturer Christiaan van der Klaauw. The workshop is situated just outside the Frisian town of Heerenveen and has became or its astronomical creations that show the planets and stars and of course the Moon.

Anton, Ab and Aart van Hell of Van Hell Juweliers are proud to have Christiaan van der Klaauw in the collection and to organize the star gazing event in Bussloo. A cloudless sky with a clear view at the stars, inspiring lectures about our universe and the astronomical complications plus the warmth of the Van Hell Juweliers team made it a perfect event. After a look at the real moon through a large telescope the miniature three dimensional moon in the Real Moon Joure looked even more impressive.
