Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Lune: the streets at night

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Lune

The dark of night. The atmosphere is electric. The Tonda 1950 Lune comes into its own here, on the knife’s edge. The latest opus in the Manufacture’s bestselling Tonda 1950 collection, it boasts the signature streamlined aesthetic and ultra-thin movement with micro-rotor designed, developed and manufactured entirely within the Parmigiani Fleurier watchmaking centre.

The calibre PF708 with 48-hour power reserve combines an accurate, reliable mechanism and optimum winding within compact dimensions. As is standard practice at Parmigiani Fleurier, and one of its hallmarks, it boasts hand-applied finishes and bevelled bridges. Its sublime structure is complemented by ‘Côtes de Genève’ decoration. Sublime, but also ingenious, as befits the aesthetic of this new piece, with its 39 mm steel case. Its lugs are slightly concave. The crown is slightly larger, giving it real impact. The dial is also bold and full of energy.

The first feature of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Lune is the highly contemporary moon phase with a display showing the two hemispheres, a calibrated scale corresponding to a lunar month of 29 and a half days, and rose gold discs reproducing the lunar cycle on the dial: new moon, first quarter, full moon and last quarter. The moon phase of this new Tonda 1950 requires correction once every three years. The black opaline dial, a finish which lends it a smooth, intense sheen, also features a highly visible date in a large aperture at 6 o’clock, a first for this model. The small second elegantly and harmoniously balances the moon phase. The applique indexes and the Delta hands with a luminescent coating discreetly bring this vibrant design to life. The Tonda 1950 Lune is available with a matt black alligator strap, perfectly complementing its urban style. It has a deployant buckle and an adjustment system with five positions to ensure it is comfortable to wear every day, in all situations, day as well as night.

When we started publishing our first high-end watch magazine in 1999, we had only one intention: increasing the popularity of high-quality mechanical watches. Now, many years later, this has not changed at all. In 2017 we have reinvented ourselves to serve our readers in a different and better way. Starting in 2017, the new 0024 is again better equipped to interact with the changing world of high-end watches. The new 0024 HORLOGES magazine (written in Dutch) will be at least a 200 pager: that’s twice the volume of our magazine in the old days.
