It happened last year, on September 8, but it hit the headlines recently. Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele (49), co-president of Chopard (the other co-president is her brother Karl‑Friedrich), was in Hong Kong for the opening of a new Chopard store. During a visit to the ladies’ room of the Four Seasons Hotel’s Harbour View ballroom she took off her ring to wash her hands. Seven minutes later she realized that she had left the ring in the ladies’ room and she raced back only to discover that the ring was gone.
And what a ring it was! It was made by Chopard and consists of a 16.83 carat emerald between two diamonds of 1.15 and 1.29 carats, and another 674 small diamonds set around the band. Its worth is a cool 1.2 million euro and a reward of circa 50.000 euro is offered for its return. It is feared, however, that the ring is already disassembled and sold off through Hong Kong’s network of small jewellers and pawn shops.
