2012-02-14_th_mikrogirder-1Last year TAG Heuer introduced the Mikrotimer Flying 1000, a watch with a mechanical movement with a second escapement (one without a balance wheel) that can measure time to 1/1000 of a second. This year the brand launches again a new concept, the Mikrogirder. This watch measures time to 1/2000 of a second.

The heart of the movement is a linear oscillator, the Mikrogirder has a new regulator system, a coupling beam/girder and excitatory beam/girder system working with a linear oscillator (versus a spiral shape in a classical hairspring) that vibrates isochronously at a very small angle, as opposed to a traditional watch, which vibrates at an angle of up to 320 degrees. The construction makes more vibrations per seconds possible and the effect of gravity due to mass is a dominant issue. The oscillator has 7,200,000 beats per hour! The smallest fraction of time is displayed on a central hand that does a complete revolution around the dial a 20 times per second. The oscillator is visible through a window. The crown is positioned at 12 o’ clock.
