BaselWorld 2017 – Nomos Glashütte Club Campus: a model student

For all you fresh graduates out there, here’s the Nomos Glashütte Campus series, mechanical timepieces for those looking forward to a bright future. Choose between a 36mm Club Campus, a slightly bigger Club 38 Campus and the dark and gloomy Club 38 Campus Nacht.

A watch for your graduation. It does sound like a bit ‘Baume et Mercier-ish’ – the Swiss brand came up with the #celebratemoments campaign and also mentioned graduation among as exactly the right moment to buy/get a Baume et Mercier – if you read what Nomos has to say about the new Campus: “A watch to celebrate academic achievement, starting a career, or traveling the world.” Great minds think alike?

California dial, Nomos style

Nomos Club Campus

Anyway, let’s step away from the campaign talk and have a look at the hardware, the Campus series. The case must ring a bell since all three models feature the familiar, extra-robust Club steel case with curved sapphire crystal glass and a steel back. Completely new is mix of Roman and Arabic numerals and indexes on the dark and light-coloured Campus dials, giving the watches an unmistakable aesthetic: California dial, Nomos style. Thanks to a coating of Superluminova, the timepieces are also easily legible in the dark. A water resistance of 10 atm., or 100 meters, means that the watches are more or less fool-proof.

Club Campus, the version for more slender wrists, comes in a classic size of 36mm with a white silver-plated dial. The hour numerals and indexes glow blue in the dark. The red outline around the numerals brings freshness to the dial, while the strap from beige velour leather makes Club a touch more elegant.

The more masculine version, Club 38 Campus, stands out with its size (38 mm) and anthracite-coloured strap. Perhaps the most eye-catching version in the series is Club 38 Campus Nacht which features a dark ruthenium-coated dial. Its hour numerals and indexes also shine blue at night, thanks to grey Superluminova. A blue outline around the numerals and anthracite-coloured velour leather strap give this model a decidedly mature appearance.

The in-house motor

The tried-and-tested and much praised calibre Alpha ticks within the Campus series—a robust, precise, and reliable in-house motor. These accessibly priced watches also come with the possibility for a personalized message on the back. All models in the Club Campus series will be available with retailers from the end of March 2017.
