While Oris is currently scoring big points with their diver’s watches, the new Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 reminds us that they are also a force not to reckon with in the field of aviation watches. Packed in a 44mm stainless steel case is a manufacture movement that packs a punch by integrating many desirable features in a single watch.

Thanks to an oversized mainspring barrel, which is clearly visible through the see-through mineral crystal on the back, it has a power reserve of no less than ten days. This is also displayed on the dial, which remains legible despite showing quite a bit of information. Next to the power reserve we also find the date and the sub-seconds, while oversized hands filled with Super-LumiNova tell the hour and minutes.

The Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 is also fitted with a second time zone complication, which is displayed on a 24-hour scale by means of an additional hand. What is rather unique is that this hand can not only be set by the full hour, but also by the half hour, as is used in time zones such as India, Venezuela and part of Australia. Combine this with a water resistance of 100 meters, and you know that this new Oris is truly travel proof!

When we started publishing our first high-end watch magazine in 1999, we had only one intention: increasing the popularity of high-quality mechanical watches. Now, many years later, this has not changed at all. In 2017 we have reinvented ourselves to serve our readers in a different and better way. Starting in 2017, the new 0024 is again better equipped to interact with the changing world of high-end watches. The new 0024 HORLOGES magazine (written in Dutch) will be at least a 200 pager: that’s twice the volume of our magazine in the old days.
